September

Make sure your volume is on!

I can't stand the heat! I am so happy when September comes around. The weather gets cooler and the children go back to school. My birthday starts off this wonderful month and then my anniversary follows. Many of my friends and family have birthdays as well. It is a month of havoc considering the chaos of everyone getting ready for school but, it is all worth it. It is funny how I always associate this month with one of my favorite songs. I will find myself humming the tune or even singing to myself in the car. This song makes me want to move and groove every time. I feel like I am back in time on a Saturday afternoon watching Soul Train. What a great mood to be in during the month of September.

**Try to listen to this whole song without moving any part of your body. LOL!

SEPTEMBER by EARTH, WIND and FIRE

Do you remember the 21st night of September?
Love was changing the minds of pretenders
While chasing the clouds away
Our hearts were ringing
In the key that our souls were singing
As we danced in the night,
Remember how the stars stole the night away
on and on - say that you remember
on and on - dancing in September
on and on - never was a cloudy day
My thoughts are with you
Holding hands with your heart to see you
Only blue talk and love,
Remember how we knew love was here to stay
Now December found the love that we shared in September.
Only blue talk and love,
Remember the true love we share today
on and on - say that you remember, on and on - dancing in September,on and on - never was a cloudy day, on and on - say do you remember, on and on - dancing in September, on and on - golden dreams were shiny days, Some bells were ringing Our souls were singing Do you remember, never a cloudy day? on and on - say do you remember on and on - dancing in September on and on - never was a cloudy day on and on - say do you remember on and on - dancing in September on and on - golden dreams were shiny days

Grammar point: Sometimes you use and adjective with a noun to describe something that truly doesn't make sense if you think about it. This is called imagery. Imagery can "paint a picture in your head." Example: "Shattered water ...Great waves looked over others coming in"
In truth we know that water isn't shattered but we understand this meaning in its context. We see of imagery in poetry. There is also a term called "guided imagery." Here, imagery is used in other ares such as the song above.
*Are there uses of imagery?
*What is an adjective?
*Can you name some adjectives in the song?
These links will help you understand imagery.(the last one is good)
Here is a lesson plan for everyone: (It is great!)

  1. Interesting post and wild background! Remember to write easy definitions. For example, a student who is learning the word chaos is even less likely to understand the words "muddle" or "utter." Most dictionary definitions are too difficult for ESL students.
